Egypt’s Might is Tumbled Down

Egypt’s Might is Tumbled Down
Down a-down the deeps of thought;
Greece is fallen and Troy town,
Glorious Rome hath lost her crown,
Venice’ pride is naught.

But the dreams their children dreamed
Fleeting, unsubstantial, vain,
Shadowy as the shadows seemed,
Airy nothing, as they deemed,
These remain.

 -Mary Coleridge

I like this poem because at first when I read the title I thought it would be about the fall of Egypt, which seemed interesting to me. Now that I have read it it makes me think of how much someone or something can do to a person or place by just how they were. Hope you liked the poem!
